After starting as technician and assistant director, he made his first short in 1987 and followed it up in 1991 with his first long narrative Toubab-Bi that received several international awards. In 1997, Touré directed TGV with Makéna Diop which became a box office success across Africa. By the turn of the century, Touré had made over ten projects spanning shorts, documentaries and narratives. In 2011, he was Jury President for the Documentary Competition at FESPACO. His film La pirogue was screened at Un Certain Regard section of Cannes Festival 2012.
